Arkut Dağı was declared a nature park on 14 April 2023 and covers 15,765 hectares, much the largest of Bolu's three recent nature parks. The Directorate singles out its potential for winter recreation and its position on a tourism route — but the site has no facilities, and it is closed to visitors.
The forest is unusually mixed for a single mountain. Black pine, Scots pine and fir grow here with prickly juniper, and alongside them oriental beech, hornbeam, alder, maple, elm, plane, hazel, poplar, sessile and Aleppo oak, wild cherry and rowan.
Fieldwork and the published literature record bears, wolves and foxes on the mountain, along with wild boar, brown hare, beech marten and squirrel. The birds noted include eagles, buzzards, sparrowhawks and kestrels, owls, rock doves, skylarks and wheatears, and among the smaller species sparrow, starling, magpie, carrion crow, jackdaw, quail and chukar.
The site is 9 kilometres from the centre of Gerede and 60 from Bolu, on asphalt road.
