This is not a sultan's foundation but a place of pilgrimage, and the difference shows in how it is used: the mosque and tomb fill with visitors on religious days and a mevlid is read every day. It matters as much to the people of Bursa as it does to visitors from abroad.

Emir Sultan was born in Bukhara and lived in Bursa in the first quarter of the 15th century, dying in 1429. His name is explained this way: "Emir" because he was held to descend from the Prophet, "Sultan" because of the hearts he won.
