Erzurum Museum is in the Yakutiye district of the city, on Paşalar Avenue below the Palandöken state hospital. The ministry's page gives its history in two dates: the museum first opened in 1944 in the Yakutiye medrese, and since 2021 it has worked from a new building.
The lower floor covers natural history and prehistory. On display are a mammoth fossil, mollusc fossils, and obsidian formed as lava cooled after volcanic eruptions, alongside material from the Karaz culture running from the Chalcolithic to the Iron Age, and from the Transcaucasian and Urartian cultures and the Hellenistic period.
The upper floor turns to later periods: Seljuk and Ottoman work, the National Struggle, folk dance, and the history and development of Oltu stone carving, shown with objects and images. Fossils, seals, archaeological and ethnographic objects and coins from Erzurum and the neighbouring provinces make up the collection as a whole.
The museum can be reached on foot from the Havuzbaşı route, and public transport serves it from anywhere in the city. The address is Rabia Ana, Şahinbey Sokak No:2, Yakutiye.
