Ambarköy is an open-air museum in the district of Lâdik that keeps a whole village as its exhibit rather than a collection of rooms. The provincial directorate describes the idea as one without a counterpart anywhere.
A stream runs through the grounds, and there is a lake, a watermill, a viewing tower, a wooden playground for children, footbridges of timber and of chain, and a complex of village buildings. Taken together they are meant to show village life as it was actually lived.
The tools, implements and household things that villagers once used every day and that now survive mostly in memory are gathered in a barn, which has been turned into a display space so that they pass on to later generations.
Ambar Han, whose architecture gives the site much of its old atmosphere, works today as a restaurant. A small zoo and a reconstruction of the old village school are planned.
