The Ramazan redoubt stands on Yıldızlı Dağ at Ardahan and is among the more important historic places in the province — the provincial directorate ranks it with the city's castle among its emblems, though one line of the source mistakenly places it in Artvin.
Its past goes back to the Urartians; it was repaired and used in the Seljuk and Ottoman periods, and Turkish troops used it for defence particularly during the Russian occupation. Unlike others of its kind it was built entirely in the form of a dome, with the stone bonded together, and horasan mortar, brick and rubble masonry went into it. It covers a large area, around 3,000 square metres, at Ortageçit.
