The museum is given over to one man's work: Ahmet Yakupoğlu, the painter from Kütahya, who left his pictures along with his personal effects and papers to Kütahya Dumlupınar University. It was built in the garden of the registered Çinili Camii in Maltepe Mahallesi, on ground belonging to the university, and it is one of the two museums under the university's museums directorate, attached to the faculty of fine arts.
Recognition took a formal route. The fine arts faculty applied, the Governorship of Kütahya forwarded the request to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in November 2022, and ministerial approval on 13 January 2023 established it as a registered private museum.
As planned by the faculty, a permanent hall is to show a set number of the painter's works and a second hall to take curated temporary exhibitions when there is demand, with his belongings and documents displayed alongside and the rooms used for academic events and for school and student groups. The faculty's page, last revised in September 2026, still speaks of the museum as opening shortly, so it is worth asking the faculty whether visits are possible before travelling.
