The museum stands on the ground where the War of Independence was fought and was built in its memory. It opened to visitors on 30 August 1997, under a permit from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Its status is that of a private museum, though the provincial directorate records it as attached to the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs.
On display are weapons, swords, photographs, documents, vehicles and equipment from the war.
