Akdağ's spa lies in Akdağ village at the foot of Dumlu Dağı, 28 km from Erzurum, and local people use the area around the springs as a picnic and outing spot. The water contains bicarbonate, chloride, sodium, magnesium and bromide, and the provincial directorate lists it as good for stomach, intestinal, gall bladder and diabetic complaints.

Across Erzurum as a whole, monthly mean temperatures run from -9.1 °C in January to 19.6 °C in August; the mean stays between 15 and 25 °C in July and August; rainfall is heaviest in May (73 mm) and lightest in August (18 mm).
