The monument stands where the road from Eskişehir enters Kütahya, raised by the provincial governorate in 2002 in memory of Evliya Çelebi, who stated that he was from the Zeryen quarter of the city. He travelled for fifty years and gathered what he heard and saw into the ten volumes of his Seyahatname, the book of travels.
Of Kütahya itself he wrote that its air and water are fine, that its cups, its various jugs and pitchers, its bowls and its plates exist nowhere else, that inside the city there are more than a thousand ice-cold waters running from the rocks, and that its handsome men and women and its learned and accomplished people are many. The monument is reached from the city centre by the number 20 bus.
