Fir III is the second tallest of the four monument firs in the Örümcek Forest at 57.6 metres, with a trunk 1.76 metres across and a girth of 5.52 metres. The Directorate General of Nature Conservation and National Parks declared all eight natural monuments on the same day, 11 October 1995: four firs and four Oriental spruces, numbered rather than named. The directorate gives its age as 400 years.

- Across Gümüşhane as a whole, monthly mean temperatures run from -1.7 °C in January to 20.3 °C in August; the mean stays between 15 and 25 °C in June, July, August and September; rainfall is heaviest in May (70 mm) and lightest in August (14 mm).
