On 11 October 1995 the Directorate General of Nature Conservation and National Parks declared eight individual trees in the Örümcek Forest natural monuments on the same day: four firs and four Oriental spruces, numbered rather than named. Spruce I is the shortest of the eight at 49.1 metres, though not the slightest: its trunk is 1.48 metres across with a girth of 4.65 metres. The directorate gives its age as 400 years.
The register entry for each of the eight is measurements only. The province is Gümüşhane; the fields for district, access road, opening hours and visitor capacity are all empty. These trees stand in working forest, not in a laid-out visitor area, and nothing in the listing tells you where the trail or the parking is — ask the provincial branch of the directorate before setting out to find a particular numbered tree.
