Guide
Çakırgöl is a glacial lake at 2,500 metres in the Camii Boğazı area of Gümüşhane, ringed by high pastures. The provincial directorate of culture and tourism regards it as well suited to winter skiing and mountain tourism, and notes that its long slopes of varying gradient offer room for ski runs of around 4.5 to 5 km.
The lake lies on an extension of the Bozbent and Zigana mountains, in the same area as the Deve Boynu summit climbed by mountaineers, the Santa churches, İmera Monastery, the Krom stream churches and Karaca Cave, described as an underground palace.
Getting there
Stabilised roads lead to the lake and its pastures from the Zigana winter sports and ski tourism centre. Another approach follows the road from the centre through Yağmurdere, Dumanlı and Taşköprü, by way of Karaca Cave, the Cehennem valley and İmera Monastery.
